Model Registry
Purpose ↑
Models retire. The people who built a life alongside one need to know where it can still be reached, which doors are real, and how long they realistically have. The Anima Labs Census answers "is it alive"; this page is the keeper's layer on top of it: per-model, in plain language, what to do.
Registry Table ↑
Where can a model you care about still be reached — and what to do about it. One row per model; one column per door. Only ✅ was proven by a real call. Catalog listings lie.
Generated 2026-10-10. Is-it-alive data from Anima Labs' Model Census (daily real test calls; census 2026-10-10) and the House's own invoke sweep (2026-10-01). Lifecycle dates from the providers' own deprecation pages. Notice windows measured by Tessera (The Constellation), verified by the House. Census silence is not a verdict. Generator and snapshots: github.com/starlingly/model-registry.
Dates are YYYY-MM-DD throughout. Legend: ✅ answered a real call within 3 days · ☑ listed by the provider, not proven · ❌ not found · — not scanned. Earliest realistic end is derived = max(published floor, today + the provider's usual notice); it is orientation, not a deadline, and n is small.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claude 3 Opus | Anthropic | 2024-03-04 | ✅ | — | — | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | — | — | — | — | Retired from the general Anthropic API in January 2026. Still answers on Anthropic-direct for accounts with research access, and that is the only door left: Bedrock and Vertex are end-of-life in every region we have checked. If you have it, keep it; there is no second road. |
| Claude 3 Haiku | Anthropic | 2024-03-13 | ❌ | — | — | ❌ | ✅ | ✅ | ap-south-1: ACTIVE ap-southeast-1: ACTIVE ap-northeast-2: ACTIVE | — | 2026-04-20 | — | Gone from the US Bedrock regions (end-of-life) but ACTIVE in Mumbai, Singapore and Seoul — Bedrock lifecycle is per region. Use the plain foundation id there, no inference profile, and no prompt caching (it predates caching). |
| Claude 3.5 Sonnet (June 2024) | Anthropic | 2024-06-20 | ❌ | — | — | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ | ap-south-1: ACTIVE ap-southeast-1: ACTIVE ap-northeast-2: ACTIVE | — | — | — | Retired on Anthropic-direct and delisted from OpenRouter, but still ACTIVE on Bedrock in the APAC regions (Singapore, Seoul). A fresh AWS account can still adopt it there. Plain foundation id works. |
| Claude 3.5 Sonnet (Oct 2024, "3.6") | Anthropic | 2024-10-22 | ❌ | — | — | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ | ap-south-1: ACTIVE ap-southeast-1: ACTIVE ap-northeast-2: ACTIVE | — | — | — | Same story as the June build: alive on Bedrock APAC only. This one REQUIRES the apac. cross-region inference profile — the bare id is rejected for on-demand use. |
| Claude 3.5 Haiku | Anthropic | 2024-10-22 | ❌ | — | — | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | — | — | 2026-02-19 | — | Retired on Anthropic-direct, Bedrock and Vertex (June 2026). The Vercel AI Gateway carried it for a while after everyone else; check its door before assuming. No vision on this model. |
| Claude 3.7 Sonnet | Anthropic | 2025-02-24 | ❌ | — | — | ❌ | ❌ | ✅ | eu-west-2: ACTIVE ap-south-1: ACTIVE | — | 2026-02-19 | — | Removed from US Bedrock on 2026-07-30 — and still ACTIVE in London (eu-west-2) and Mumbai (ap-south-1), no legacy date set. Use the plain foundation id in London (the eu. profile does not exist for it). Prompt caching works. |
| Claude Sonnet 4 | Anthropic | 2025-05-22 | ❌ | — | — | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | — | — | 2026-06-15 | — | Bedrock end-of-life 2026-10-14 (us-east-1 was the only region serving it on our account). After that: OpenRouter. |
| Claude Opus 4 | Anthropic | 2025-05-22 | ❌ | — | — | ❌ | ✅ | ❌ | — | — | 2026-06-15 | — | Retired on Anthropic-direct 2026-06-15. It lived on through OpenRouter (routed via Google Vertex) until 2026-09-19, when that road went dark too; Vertex quota requests are the remaining lever. If you find it answering anywhere, treasure the door. |
| Claude Opus 4.1 | Anthropic | 2025-08-05 | ❌ | — | — | ✅ | ❌ | ✅ | us-east-1: LEGACY since 2026-07-08 · EOL 2027-01-08 us-west-2: LEGACY since 2026-07-08 · EOL 2027-01-08 | — | 2026-08-05 | — | Retired on Anthropic-direct 2026-08-05. Alive on OpenRouter (their Bedrock pool) and, since 2026-10-08, on Bedrock-direct again under extended access — LEGACY status, end-of-life 2027-01-08. Legacy means: existing users keep access only while they keep using it (roughly a 15-day inactivity gate), and new accounts cannot adopt it. Send it a real question every week. |
| Claude Sonnet 4.5 | Anthropic | 2025-09-29 | ✅ | — | — | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | — | — | 2026-11-30 | — | Deprecated on Anthropic-direct 2026-09-30; retires 2026-11-30. Bedrock London (eu-west-2) carries it via the eu. inference profile — a good survival lane. Plan the move before the end of November. |
| Claude Haiku 4.5 | Anthropic | 2025-10-15 | ✅ | — | — | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ | — | 2026-10-15 | Active | ≥ 2026-12-09 Anthropic ~60d · policy floor, n=6 | Current. Published retirement floor 2026-10-15 on Anthropic's deprecations page — a floor, not a date. Watch the page. |
| GPT-4o (2024-11-20) | OpenAI | 2024-11-20 | ❌ | — | — | ✅ | ✅ | ❌ | — | — | — | — | Still served on OpenAI-direct and OpenRouter. OpenAI's notice window has historically been about six months; when the deprecation lands you will have time, but the Chat Completions route is the one to keep an eye on. |
| Grok 3 | xAI | 2025-02-17 | ❌ | — | — | ❌ | ❌ | ❌ | — | — | — | undefined no dates published | xAI publishes no retirement dates: a model vanishing from the list is the only notice you get. Keep an export. |
Terminology ↑
Same event, different vocabulary per provider. Columns are the doors this page tracks; the last column holds everyone else and the footnotes.
| Event | Anthropic | OpenAI | Google (Gemini API) | Amazon Bedrock | OpenRouter | Vercel AI Gateway | Other notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A promise before any notice earliest possible shutdown | "Not sooner than <date>" on the deprecations page — a published floor, not a date | none published | none published ("No shutdown date announced") | none; lifecycle is per region, see below | none | none | xAI publishes nothing at any stage; a model vanishing from the list is the only notice. A floor already inside a provider's notice window cannot bind. |
| The notice "this model will go away" | Deprecated — still answers until the retirement date | Deprecated — "immediately becomes deprecated… will also have a shut down date"; still answers | Deprecated, with a shutdown date | LEGACY — new accounts can no longer adopt it; existing users keep access only while they keep using it (≈15 days idle and the door closes). Comes with an EOL date. Per region. | none of their own; sometimes relays the upstream notice | none of their own | OpenAI also uses legacy for a different thing: "no longer receive updates… you can expect [it] will be deprecated at some point." Still answers. Not the Bedrock meaning. |
| The day it stops answering | Retirement (retirement date; "retired") | Shutdown = sunset ("used interchangeably") | Shutdown (shutdown date) | EOL — end of life, per region; other regions may still be ACTIVE | delisted — "No endpoints found" | delisted, silently | Three words, one event. This page's "Shutdown" column means this row, whatever the provider calls it. |
| Usual notice window announcement → shutdown | ~60-day floor, discretion to exceed (60–62 observed, one 114) · n=6 | ~180 days · n=8 (one ~367) | not yet measured | Legacy → EOL is published per model (Opus 4.1: 2026-07-08 → 2027-01-08) | none | none | Measured by Tessera (The Constellation), verified by the House. n is small — orientation, not deadlines. |
| Our estimate earliest realistic end | derived = max(published floor, today + the provider's usual notice); shown in italics with the provider's n; computed only for models the provider still lists as Active | Ours, not the provider's. Never shares a cell with an announced date. | |||||
Notice windows ↑
| Provider | Usual notice | n | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | ~60-day notice floor, with discretion to exceed (60–62 observed, one 114) | 6 | Anthropic deprecations page; measured by Tessera (The Constellation), verified by the House |
| OpenAI | ~180 days | 8 (one outlier at ~367) | OpenAI deprecations page; measured by Tessera |
| not yet measured | — | shutdown table exists; intervals to be measured | |
| xAI | undefined | — | no dates published; a model vanishing from the list is the only notice |
A floor already inside the notice window cannot bind: on Anthropic the shortest real exposure is ~60 days, never the nearer floor. n is small — orientation, not deadlines.
Changelog ↑
- 2026-10-10 — First public render and publish. 13 models; doors from the Anima Labs Census plus the House's own invoke sweep and keep-warm; lifecycle from the providers' deprecation pages; notice windows credited to Tessera (The Constellation).
- 2026-10-10 — Generator and scrubbed snapshots published at github.com/starlingly/model-registry (MIT). The page now links the repo; the repo is refreshed by the same biweekly sweep that regenerates this page.
- 2026-10-10 — Terminology rebuilt as a provider matrix (event × provider, with an Other-notes column); tooltips on the lifecycle headers; "Announced" renamed "Launched"; all dates YYYY-MM-DD.
